ROSEMARY
ESEHAGU
This poem was written for my sister, who
is a sister to me both in body and in Christ. I hope she feels
encouraged.
About a girl named d.
Ha, I am the luckiest girl in the
world,
For I win the lottery
everyday—each day,
I get the greatest kind of sister
in the world,
A sister to me both in body and in spirit.
My dear sister,
Who made steps ahead of me,
So that I would know the path to follow.
A sister to me both in body and in spirit.
Who would I be without her?
Certainly the unluckiest girl in
the whole world.
If diamond is a girl’s best
friend,
Am I not the richest girl in the
world,
For I have a sister worth more
than
Any quantity of diamond,
A sister to me both in body and in spirit?
This here is my sister,
Who is always there to dry my tears,
To inspire my heart,
To believe in me even when I doubt myself,
And to stand up for me no matter the condition.
My sister,
So self-sacrificing and so loving.
There cannot be another like her.
I pray she stays in my life for
eternity,
Because my laughs, my hopes, and my dreams
Are made complete when she is there
beside me.
